Theatre for Change with Jessica Bleuer

For: Directors, Actors, Educators, Activists, and Community Workers

Length: 16 Hours

Date: November 14th and 15th, 9 -5 pm

Location: Belgo Building, 372 St. Catherine St. West

This experiential course teaches students how theatre techniques can be used for meaningful social change. Forum theatre is recognized by the United Nations as “an official tool for social change”.  By practicing particular techniques such as forum theatre, invisible theatre and street theatre, course participants will have an opportunity to test out this theory for themselves. This course is designed to enable students to facilitate democracy theatre techniques as a visioning exercise which encourages communities to identify issues of importance, explore their complexities, and develop action plans to transform their problems. Techniques will be rehearsed, case studies reviewed, and ethical issues discussed. Jessica Bleuer has facilitated democracy theatre workshops and programs in over twenty various community centres, not-for-profits, high schools, universities and peace camps in Canada, USA, Northern Ireland, Argentina, and South Korea.
